Our hormonal health affects our bodies in many ways, but one of them is increased weight. Women with hormonal disorders gain weight around their waist, between the armpits and upper thighs. Often their arms are normal, their legs are normal, and from the neck down, they look great! Men with hormonal disorders gain weight around the waist and are often on the verge of developing breasts!

Estrogen is produced in our fat cells. Estrogen increases fat cells. As a result, more estrogen is produced, and so on.

Breaking the estrogen cycle and following a great weight management program is exactly what you need to do.

Step One: Evaluate your hormones. Determine the ratio of estrogen to progesterone in your body. If this ratio is out of balance, we call it estrogen dominance, then you will likely have gained or are currently gaining weight around your waist.

Step Two: Start an estrogen reduction program. This of course includes increasing your progesterone levels with a bioidentical progesterone cream. But hormonal balancing has never been limited to progesterone. Modulating and balancing estrogen, if out of balance with progesterone, is equally important to your weight loss program.

An estrogen reduction program will include:

- Increase your fiber intake. This is done in two ways: 1. Eat as much as you can by choosing fruits, vegetables and whole grains as your fiber-rich carbohydrate choices, then add a fiber supplement (Fiber Source 7) to consume 30 to 50 grams of fiber per day.
- Increase indoles (cruciferous vegetables like broccoli, cabbage and cauliflower) in your diet. This can be done in two ways: Eat as much as you can and supplement with an indole-3-carbinol supplement (EllagiGuard). Aim for 3 servings per day.

- Increase essential fatty acids (EFAs) in your diet. They are essential because the body does not make them. They help to balance the production of prostaglandins in the body and therefore to regulate estrogens.

- Increase your overall diet by taking a vitamin C supplement (Super C Crystals) and taking a concentrated fruit and vegetable supplement (Fruit and Vegetable Essence).

Step Three: Eat 40/30/30. Adopt a new way of approaching meals by striving to eat a balanced amount of carbohydrates, proteins and fats at each meal. When we eat balanced meals, our weight normalizes, our energy levels increase and our hormones are in balance. Further information can be found in the book "The Formula" by J & G Daoust.

Step Four: Get moving. Develop a great exercise program with the help of someone who knows what they're doing. Tailor a program specifically for you - one you can follow and are willing to commit to. Most of us need to think about getting our bodies moving and staying active for the rest of our lives. Sweet potatoes are rarely healthy.

Step Five: Party! Men and women whose hormones are out of balance feel bad. Men and women whose hormones are balanced feel good. Good hormonal health will improve your overall health and well-being and help you lose weight. You will look younger and feel younger!
